Akira Sakata / The Tale of Heike

An epic concept album narrated and performed by Akira Sakata, Heike Monogatari ("Tale of the Heike") is the most disturbing entry so far in the doubtmusic catalogue. This work is an expression of the philosophy of impermanence. It's also a vision of Hell. Woodwinds signify madness. Bells accentuate silence. And Sakata's voice unleashes a phantasmagoric torrent of shomyo (Japanese Tantric Buddhist chanting), death metal growls, and pure pandemonium. Is he serious? Or not? One thing is certain: This heavy, doom-laden, historical-picture-scroll of an album isn't likely to get any play at a fashionable jazz bar or cafe! DO NOT let children listen to this CD - it may cause serious trauma. Featuring liner notes by Jojo Hiroshige (Hijokaidan).

This is the kind of album Osaka natives might describe as do-aho ("totally insane"). Super do-aho. Do-aho to the max. Play it loud and children will shriek, monkeys will dance, mice will run, horses will whinny, cows will drool, lions will roar, dragons will rage, and the sky will split and the earth will crack and the seas will burn, and every listener's soul will be shaken, and musicians all over the world will experience agonizing jealousy. It's an incredible masterpiece that will make you cry a river of tears. The hidden Great Demon of classical Japanese art has been unleashed. Oh, how I waited so long for a work like this. Anarchy!!!

The debut album of blacksheep, the group led by Ryuichi Yoshida, was released in summer 2008, with the first printing selling out. Following up on this success, blacksheep has come out with a second album! The unique mood of the open recording was captured with amazing sensitivity by recording engineer Yoshiaki Kondoh of GOK Sound. From the first tune there's a full-tilt groove, and the middle section is both intense and melodious. At the end there's a completely different interpretation of the first track of blacksheep's first album. The members are proud to have made a recording that will please jazz fans and non-fans alike. And this time they asked Daisuke Nishijima to create the CD's cover manga. Nishijima has gained popularity for works like the masterpiece Dien Bien Phu, which depicts the Vietnam War from an original perspective. For this album he's drawn Yoko-chan, a GothLoli girl with sheep's horns. It's the jazz world(?)'s first "moe" CD cover! Packaged on the other side of cute little Yoko-chan is blacksheep's blazing, amazing music.

ONJT means a abbreviation of Otomo Yoshide's New Jazz Trio, Otomo Yoshihide (guitar), Mizutani Hiroaki (bass, misc.), Yoshigaki Yasuhiro(drums, percussion) and "+" means the guests for those 2 CDs ; Sachiko M (sinewaves) and Jim O'rourke (EMS synthesizer).
Otomo continues with his "New Jazz" project from ONJQ (Quintet) via ONJE (Ensemble) to ONJO (Orchestra), and this time he organize his core group / trio form. Those 2 CDs are long-expected works, Otomo try to revive birth and death of "free jazz" by contemporary sounds and interpretations.
A death of Albert Ayler has been identified on 25th October, 1970 at East River, N.Y.C. 40@years has past from Albert's death. How does improvised music changed over 40 years ? Here is the answer in some way.

SEIJAKU / Mail From FUSHITSUSHAidmf-136j This had to be created.

SEIJAKU / You Should Prepare To Survive Through Even Anything Happensidmf-137j
Keijo Haino sent Seijaku out into the world as his permanent band. At the time of recording, this was to be a single album, but the combination of Haino's overflowing musical ideas and the unlimited improvisational abilities of the three members quickly led to the decision to release two works with different concepts. Keiji Haino calls them "20th-century blues and 21st-century blues." Both albums contain fiercely spiritual music offered up to the spirit of the blues. This is nothing like ordinary rock. It's real rock! And blues!

Seijaku
Launched in 2009, the band consists of Keiji Haino (guitar, vocal, etc.), Mitsuru Nasuno (bass), and Yoshimitsu Ichiraku (drums). If you had to describe their music in words, you might call them "an unimaginable blues band fusing Delta blues and Noh." They gave their first live performance on August 15, 2009, at Tokuzo in Nagoya. After that their sound changed significantly with each rehearsal and they developed a unique groove. It would be no exaggeration to say that Seijaku is home to real blues.
